May Challenge - Inspired by Nature

Hey guys!

I'm so excited to share today's post with you because it's something I'm really proud of! I've always considered myself artistically challenged... I will forever be stuck at the stage of drawing stick figures. And if I try to draw a dog, it might look like a deer or a donkey, you never know. So when I first started doing nail art not too long ago, I thought I could only create interesting looks using dotting tools and striping tape. I thought there was no way I could freehand designs like I've seen many girls do.

That's where the Hobby Polish Bloggers May Challenge comes in. I'm so glad that I'm taking part in this challenge, partly because it's really pushed me to try things that I never thought I could do.

I know, I know... flowers for a nature-inspired challenge are pretty cliche and not the most innovative. But freehand roses are something that I've admired, so once I saw this awesome tutorial by The Nailasaurus, I knew I had to give it a try. And the results turned out better than I could have imagined! So thanks, Nailasaurus, for inspiring me to push my (imagined) boundaries and allowing me to create something I didn't think was possible for me!

This is my second post for this May challenge. Here's the full challenge:

For this look, I started with two coats of piCture pOlish Cosmos, the most incredible blue holo polish in the whole wide world. If you didn't already see my public declaration of love for Cosmos, you can check it out here. Then I used a nail art brush to paint on rough circles using OPI Can't Find My Czechbook, a light robin's egg blue with a subtle dusty quality to it. Then I used a small striping brush to add depth and shading to the roses using darker blue acrylic paint and China Glaze Kinetic Candy. Lastly, I used Jessica Lime Cooler to make the leaves.
I wish the holo of Cosmos showed through more in my pictures, because it created a really cool and unexpected base for the roses! But okay, okay, I'll stop talking about all of this now and just show you the pictures!

So what do you guys think?? If you're like me and think you can't freehand anything, you should really look at the tutorial I used! You'll be surprised at how much easier it is to do than it looks.

If you missed my first submission for this challenge, you can see my Fashion-Inspired look here. Also, don't forget to check out the other ladies' amazing designs for this challenge using the Inlinkz below!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I truly appreciate the support I have received from other polish addicts out there, and I'm glad that I have the privilege to get involved with such an awesome group of women. <3

Have an amazing day! =)

  6. You did really great on those roses! And you should really try freehand stuff more, 'cause it really isn't that hard, just like these roses. Easy to do, and give such a beautiful result :)
I also really like the colors you used, that you used blue instead of the usual pink or red for roses ;)
