Essie Neon Summer 2013 Collection

Hey guys!

I hope everyone had a really great weekend! I spent a lot of time outside with one of my very best friends Jessica. She's amazing and I'm so glad I got to see her! She moved away for school, but she's back visiting, so I jumped on the opportunity to reserve all of her time haha. We met all the way back in 6th grade, and we've been best friends ever since! I also got to spend a lot of time with my momma, which is always so nice. I hope everyone else was able to get in a lot of family and friend time too. =)

Today I have two polishes from the Essie Neon Collection that they released this month for summer 2013, and they're both pink! Which is such a surprise for me because even though pink is my favorite color in general, I usually don't like it much on my nails. But after seeing swatches of Boom Boom Room and Bottle Service, I knew I had to have them! Something about their brightness is unique to me and really drew me in. Click on the link below for swatches of these two babies and a review!

Let me just get the whole "neon" thing out of the way first. These are definitely not neons. They're not so incredibly bright that you have to avert your eyes when you try to look at your nails in the sun. Honestly though, that's okay with me! And I knew that about these polishes when I got them. And while they're not neon, they're so fun and definitely bright! Much brighter than your usual creme polishes.

Essie suggests layering all the polishes from this collection over their white polish Blanc, but I settled for my favorite white polish, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls. I started with two coats of white, then applied these polishes.

We'll start with Boom Boom Room. I adore this shade of pink! It could easily have been a pastel, but it's so bright that it's a sassy pastel with a twist. I don't even know if I'd call it pastel at all really, but that's just the color family it's in and that's what it reminds me of when I try to think of similar shades. It's a cute blue-based bubblegum pink, but it has more warmth to it than typical pinks this shade. It's not dainty or delicate like most bubblegum pinks, which I love about it. It's just such a fun pink, I'll be wearing this a lot on my toes and hands this summer! And probably even throughout the year haha. The formula was great! It was like a classic thicker creme, and I don't think layering it over white made a difference at all, so next time I'll just apply it on it's own. I applied two coats of Boom Boom Room over white with a layer of top coat for the photos below.

Now on to Bottle Service! This is another amazingly awesome pink! I honestly can't pick a favorite between these two! Bottle Service is a bright medium-dark pink with just a hint of red and magenta. This one is actually almost neon. It's like right at the cusp of being a true neon, but it doesn't quite get there. But again, that's okay with me! It's still so so bright in any lighting. Which is why it was so hard for my camera to pick up the true color... but I finally managed to capture it right! Bottle Service definitely benefited from being applied over white - it wouldn't have been nearly as bright on it's own. The formula was much thinner, but it wasn't streaky or hard to work with. It dries to a satiny, rubbery finish, so I applied top coat. The photos below are two coats of Bottle Service over white.

So that wraps it up for this very pink Monday! Both of these polishes are so awesome... I wore Bottle Service on my left hand and Boom Boom Room on my right for two days! I'm glad I've found some pinks that I like so I can actually start to build a collection of pinks, since I don't have too many (maybe only 5 or 6!).

What do you guys think of these polishes? Are there any that you picked up from Essie's neon collection for summer?

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you all have a great day and are off to a great start of your week!

  1. Gorgeous swatches! Both pinks look amazing on you! The name Boom Boom Room makes me think of the movie "Life" I don't know if you've ever seen it but it's really good and Eddie Murphy's character (Ray) talks about "Ray's Boom Boom Room" which in his mind is a jazz club. Okay enough rambling out of me LOL

  2. These actually sound kind of perfect because they'[re not in your face neon. I find true neons to be waaaay too distracting on fingertips. I'll have to take another look at these.
