piCture pOlish Gene Doll

Hi guys!

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone's week is going well. Today I want to show you another amazing piCture pOlish shade (let's be real... does PP make any polishes that are anything short of amazing??) called Gene Doll. Gene Doll is a mix of fuschia glitters in a clear base. Click the read more link below to see photos and a review!

As much as I love glitters and creating different layering combos with them, up until now I barely used my beloved glitter polishes for fear of the pain of removal. I just really don't like the thought of soaking my fingers in acetone, nor do I like having to scrub my poor nails. It's all such a hassle! Enter piCture pOlish Revolution, a new glitter base coat. I was skeptical at first that Revolution would really make glitter removal that much easier. But boy was I wrong! Removal has been so much easier now that I have Revolution, and I'm stoked because that means I get to wear and show you more glitters! Yay!

Now onto Gene Doll. Gene Doll is made up of different sized fuschia hex glitters. Some of the glitters are tiny, others are a nice medium-size. I really like how versatile this polish is... with some base polishes it can look more pink, while other base polishes bring out its purple tone. I really love the color.. it's so pretty!

The formula was easy to work with. The clear base was slightly on the thicker side and drying time was a little longer than usual, but given this is a glitter, all of this is to be expected and definitely not disappointing by any means! I used two coats of Gene Doll over my base polishes to get the amount of glitter I wanted on the nail. One coat was just a little too sparse for my liking, but two did the trick just fine!

Here's a bottle shot of this beauty.

For this first look, I paired Gene Doll over just one coat of OPI Dutch Ya' Just Love OPI?, an beautiful deep purple shade with a subtle pink shimmer. I knew this would be a great pair because the pink shimmer in the OPI polish goes really nicely with the fuschia glitters in Gene Doll! I love how these two polishes togther resulted in somewhat of a jelly look overall - the combo was just so shiny and squishy! I really don't know why I didn't realize all my pictures were blurry when I took them. Bummer. Here's the best shot I got.

While I really like the look above, I love this next look! Light blues and turquoises are my favorite colors of polish, and I love pairing them with purples and pinks! Hence this next combo. I used two coats of China Glaze Kinetic Candy as a base. Kinetic Candy is actually one of my favorite polishes! It's a really nice greyed-out light blue shade. I can't even describe how beautiful it is. Again, I layered two coats of Gene Doll to get great glittery payoff. And the result... ugh. *Love* While the first look was more about the two polishes complimenting each other, this second look is all about contrast! The light blue shade and the fuchsia color of the glitters really make both colors pop. Gene Doll made Kinetic Candy look a lot more vibrant and brighter, while Kinetic Candy provided a great base to showcase the beauty of Gene Doll.

Looking at this combo now, I think it would have looked great mattified! Oh well... next time.

What do you guys think of Gene Doll? And who would have thought I would love a pink glitter so much?? When I think pink glitter, I think girly. But Gene Doll is much more sassy than anything, which is perfect for me! Do you guys have any other pairing suggestions I should try? I'd love to hear your input!

As always, thanks so much for stopping by Polished Prescription! I hope you have an awesome day!

  1. Both are lovely combination with the glitter Kelsey! Its totally such a sassy glitter and not as girly as I expected it to be too. This glitter can work over any color but I think it would look awesome over a neutral like a grey:)

  2. Wow...I'm so glad you have this one. I have always loved this polish, but I was thinking it was a magenta base rather than a clear one. I think I wanted it so badly because I love Gene Kelly. :) But I love the pairing with Kinetic Candy!! It looks wonderful.
