Saran Wrap Nails

Happy Monday!

I know, I know, Mondays aren't the best... BUT I just took my dermatology test this morning and it went pretty well!  We still have a couple hours of lecture this afternoon (so not fair), but I'm still relieved to have that test done and out of the way.

Usually when I study, I reward myself by doing my nails after completing a certain amount of work, and this weekend was no exception!  Yesterday, I attempted saran wrap nails for the first time - it's something that I've really been wanting to try because the technique seems pretty simple and yields really pretty and interesting results.  Mine didn't turn out quite how I wanted them to, but I'm satisfied enough for a first attempt.  Check out the photos and a description after the jump!

For anyone who hasn't tried the saran wrap technique, I definitely recommend it!  It's really simple, easy, and only requires polish and saran wrap! Before applying any polish, I cut up 2" x 2" pieces of saran wrap so they would be ready to go when I needed them. Next, I used two coats of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls as a base.  Once the white was completely dry, I applied a coat of Zoya Yummy (a beautiful sky blue creme) to the first nail.  Immediately after applying Yummy, I crumpled a piece of saran wrap into a little ball and blotted it onto the nail several times while the polish was still wet to pick up some of the blue color.  I did the same thing for each nail, one nail at a time.  Then, I applied two coats of top coat to smooth out the manicure.

You can see the end results in the photos below.  My pictures make Yummy look like a bright Robin's egg blue, but in reality it's a little more of a sky blue color.  I'm showing you both hands so you can see the different patterns that came out.

Right hand. Outdoors.  Ignore the pinky nail.

Left hand.  Sunlight.

Left hand.  Shade.
Close-up.

As you can see, the designs came out very different on each nail.  I think the key to getting this look right is applying the right amount of pressure when picking up the polish with the saran wrap.  As you can see on my ring finger on my left hand, I applied a little too much pressure and picked up too much polish.  I'll just have to play around with this technique and figure out the best way to do it so I can get the results I want.

I actually do like how these turned out, and you can't really see the imperfections in person.  I'll be sure to show you my next attempt when I get around to it. Just like with gradient nails, there are so many possible color combinations that I can't wait to try!

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and thanks for stopping by!
